What the fault looks like

  • —Cable only charges at a certain angle
  • —Nothing happens when you plug in, on any cable

  • —"Liquid detected" warnings that will not clear

What we actually do

First, the free check: half of all "dead ports" are pocket lint compacted at the back of the connector. Two minutes with the pick and the microscope, no charge.

If the port itself is worn or damaged, we replace the full charge-port flex assembly — which also carries the primary microphone, so calls get tested too.

If the fault is on the board (tristar/Hydra charging IC), we say so and quote board-level work instead. A new port on a dead charging IC fixes nothing.

Questions we actually get

My iPhone stopped charging. Is it definitely the port?+
No — and the difference matters. Lint is free to fix, a port is £49–£59, a charging IC is board work. We test in that order, cheapest first.
Can you really fix it for free?+
If it is lint, yes. We would rather you tell three people the shop fixed your phone for nothing than charge you £39 for two minutes with a pick.
How long does a port replacement take?+
Forty-five minutes to an hour. The part also carries the main microphone, so we test calls and voice notes before you leave.
Wireless charging works but the cable does not. Port?+
Almost always, yes — wireless uses a different circuit. The free check will confirm it.
